this here is a cross stitch rendering in embroidery sampler style of the Aperture Science Weighted Companion Cube on 28-count Evenweave. what possessed me? I don't know. I guess I just wanted to remind Dan what a geek I am in celebration of our anniversary.
he laughed a lot, though, so I win.
I adapted a pattern from this lovely wallpaper: [link] (which is currently gracing both my desktop and my phone) and rendered the companion cube in 10 colors of embroidery floss.
this is fan art for Valve's Portal but the "fan art" category doesn't have any textile options :'(
cross stitch isn't complex, but boy does it take a long time.
This is quite possibly one of the most amazing/entertaining things I have seen in a very long time. It's almost enough to cause me to take up cross stitch again... almost.
The adaptation of the Dickinson poem is quite clever as well.

thank you!! your comment made me laugh out loud--really! I can't take credit for the Dickinson adaptation, though--that came straight from the game.
[link] <- you can kind of make it out in this screen capture, toward the middle-right of the screen.
when it comes to samplers, they always seem to have pithy verses, and of all of the lore in the game, nothing seemed more appropriate for the task than this.

I watch a lot of TV. I drink a lot of coffee, too. But you know what's really addictive? Heroin.
That has got to be one of the greatest things in the history of ever.
xD
I haven't even played the game, I've heard about it, and I've been told the general gist of the wieghted companion cube thing, but I still think this is awesome. It's CROSS STITCH xD!
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example. From participating in devmeets, to providing positive encouragement to other artists, `Rushy can always be found demonstrating what it really takes to be a true deviant. It's without any hesitation that we are delighted to award the Deviousness Award for July 2009 to `RushyRead More
