Artist's Comments

I have not submitted a terrible amount of OLD art to this dev site since I feel I've come a long way and it doesn't make much sense to focus on the old. However, ~crushed-melon submitted a FANTASTIC Nausicaä of the Valley of Wind fanart of Kushana which made me all soft and squishy and sentimental for the days when Miyazaki was my BIGGEST!!! idol. I painted this picture during my senior year of high school, when I was wasting time in AP art. (I had been an AP art student for three years, and suddenly decided I didn't want to do a portfolio, so I made my teacher VERY sad and dicked around for my last year.)

This became a capstone piece for my art work in high school. I completed it December 6th, 2000.

This is fan art of Nausicaä and a little known character from the manga--Ceraine, daughter of the forest. I fell in love with many of the minor characters in Miyazaki's fantastic manga, and for several years Ceraine was the moniker I was using online--from eBay right down to the Nausicaä fan site I ran through high school (http://nausicaa.wanfear.com/).

Acrylics on paper canvas, outlines with Sakura Micron pen. This is my take on a scene in the manga where Ceraine fixes Nausicaä's mask--except, of course, I failed to draw Ceraine's bubble tent in.

Characters copyright Hayao Miyazaki. ;3

I love the art of the nausicaa movie, I just still need to watch the full movie, so far, I've only seen the first half hour *lol*

skip the movie--read the manga!! ;) ha ha. I love Nausicaä to death, probably wouldn't like it as much if I hadn't read that masterpiece of a manga. Far exceeds the storytelling capacity of the film. :D

I watch a lot of TV. I drink a lot of coffee, too. But you know what's really addictive? Heroin.

That's really awesome. I still need to teach myself how to paint. ..heh, my portfolio is due in like 4 months. I'm dead. >_>

How did you do the grass like that? It's better than that cheap photoshop grass brush tool that everyone uses. :D

I painted every blade o grass. T _T It took awhile. I was real anal about it though.

I was also trying to waste AS much time as humanly possible 'cause I didn't want to work on a REAL project. :P man, I'm such a bitch. My poor old art teacher.

Very pretty, what great colors! Such a soft and welcoming feel to it :B~~ I want to eat the grass :D

My art teacher hates me because I did the very same thing. Except I didn't even work hard on stuff I didn't care about, I just drew meaningless crap, like robotic fish and stick figures comics based on real events.
